FLPP3-DOC Demise Observation Capsule

Obiettivo

The aim is to build a capsule capable of staying attached to the upper stage of the launch vehicle during its demise in the Earth atmosphere.

Once the needed data have been collected the capsule will separate and will complete an autonomous reentry. After the hypersonic part of the flight, the capsule will transmit the data through the global satellite network IRIDIUM.

Attività nel progetto CIRA

CIRA is in charge of:

  • Definition of the aero-shape.
  • Supervision and consolidation of the aero-thermal database..
  • Design of:
    • Thermal protection systems.
    • Structures.
    • Mechanisms.

More over CIRA, for the parts of responsibility, shall realize:

  • An Engineering Qualification Model, For test and design validation.
  • A Proto-Flight Model for the flight mission
