Safety and Security, Environmental Impact of Air Transport

Sustainability and Safety of the Air Transport System are issues of great global concern. In this context, CIRA carries out various research activities in line with the provisions set down by ACARE in Flight Path 2050 and by the main international programmes like SESAR 2020, Horizon 2020, and Clean Sky 2.

These activities include:

  • sustainable development of the ATS;

  • risk management and assessment;

  • the use of autonomous systems for critical missions;

  • critical infrastructure protection.

In this way, CIRA can build upon the skills it has already acquired and increase its know-how to ensure that research in this area remains at the highest standard in Europe.

CIRA addresses the technological challenges in this area with research into: sustainable development of the ATS, Integrity Engineering, the use of autonomous systems for critical missions, and critical infrastructure protection.
