It represents the first unit of the final demonstrator of the 30 kN thrust LOX / CH4 engine, one of the most challenging goals of the HYPROB-NEW project. <br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">But to make this result more important was the manufacturing of the regenerative combustion chamber through a electroplating technique of copper and nickel used for the first time in Italy thanks to a cooperation between CIRA and CECOM. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">With this technique is possible to avoid brazing and welding processes. The manufacturing of the chamber was preceded by a process development period, which lasted almost two years, and followed by a series of final acceptance checks, carried out at CECOM (Guidonia - Rome). In addition to the dimensional checks, two leak tests and a proof test (1.5 x MEOP) were conducted in order to verify the integrity of the cooling system, consisting of a jacket with 96 axial channels and refrigerant inlet and outlet manifolds. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">The combustion chamber unit will now be integrated with the Injection Head, previously designed, built and tested by CIRA in the FSBB fire test campaign carried out in cooperation with AVIO. The final goal is to validate the DEMO-0A system with fire tests in order to verify its technological reliability for in-flight application. <br></p>​<p style="text-align:justify;">​July 6, 2020<br></p><p><br></p>2020-07-05T22:00:00Z
