During such meeting were discussed some topics of common interest for possible future collaboration.

First topic is related to the re-design of the more complex SCIROCCO and Ames arc heater components (such as segments and electrodes). Such cooperation could be also on the common selection of SMEs able to fabricate such components in order to overcome the current limitation of only a single company that currently produce arc heater spare parts for CIRA and NASA facilities.

It was agreed another possible topic related to the detailed characterization of test chamber conditions. Such activity could be performed sharing relevant experimental data from CIRA and NASA PWT's with the support of a numerical simulation of nozzle and test chamber conditions through new dedicated test campaigns on simple common test articles. This topic can anticipate a wider joint activity in the framework of Mars Sample Return.

In order to initiate appropriate way to start a cooperation, CIRA and NASA representatives will act to push this position through their respective management and governmental bodies.

2019-10-03T22:00:00Z
