AIRONE - Cheap Online Weather Information Service for the Personal Air Vehicles sector
Obiettivo
In this project an innovative low cost Weather Information Service will be designed, prototyped and flight demonstrated so to be useful for pilot awareness of Personal Air Vehicles during Visual Flight Rules (VFR) flights.
Key system components are:
A ground segment for processing navigation data, weather information and forecast to be sent on-board through the use of a satellite channel in S band;
Very low cost on-board equipment (e.g. tablet) abole to receive satellite data, graphically visualize the wqeather and navigation information and to support the pilot for navigation decision making based on the current situation.
The project includes requirement definition and architectural design of the whole system.
Furthermore, it is foreseen the development of the key component prototypes (partial ground segment and the whole on-board segment, inclusive of the satellite TX/RX devices), their integrated test on ground and several demonstration flights using a Very Light Aircraft equipped and managed by CIRA (FLARE).
Attività nel progetto CIRA
CIRA tasks are:
Support to requirement and architecture of the overall system and its components;
Development of the SW application for pilot navigation assistance that suggests new flight plans / directions avoiding the weather hazards while keeping a safe distance from the terrain and other No-fly zones;
Support to the integration of various equipment and for flight system validation using the CIRA's experimental flight facility FLARE.
