AirGreen2 – Delivered to Leonardo the morphing winglets

After about six years of R&D within the AirGreen2 Project (funded by the Clean Sky 2 REG IADP programme) the morphing winglets prototypes were released to Leonardo for subsequent flight tests on the C27J aircraft.

The design of the Adaptive Winglet in charge of CIRA was developed in collaboration with Tecnam and Umbra to meet the requirements provided by Leonardo for the future TP90 regional aircraft. Implementing a unique design, the Winglet features 2 independently movable morphing surfaces, capable of increasing the aerodynamic efficiency of the wing by actively controlling the loads at the wing interface.

After the structural tests on the ground, Tecnam manufactured the flying prototypes. After passing the functional tests and integration checks performed with Leonardo's technicians, the prototypes have been released for subsequent integration activities on the aircraft and ground vibration tests performed by Leonardo. Flight tests are scheduled for June 2023.
