TIMA – Technologies for low emission and long endurance piston engines

Obiettivo

The goals pursued can be mainly identified as important performance improvements of a baseline engine in terms of: efficiency, specific fuel consumption and emissions of pollutant and climate-altering substances.

The project aims at the integration of enabling technologies in a technology focus that is a Diesel piston engine, two stroke, common-rail feeding by both kerosene and Diesel fuel. Enabling technologies encompass also, but not only, new materials and new technological processes.

Attività nel progetto CIRA

CIRA is performing a key role within the project mainly consisting in research, experimentation, design, characterization, structural analysis, topological optimization and production of engine components e.g., connecting rods in lightweight alloys based on titanium, by means of innovative manufacturing processes e.g., 3D Printing – Additive Layer Manufacturing through Electron Beam Melting.

Programma

TIMA is one of the projects developed within RITAM, a network of enterprises, Universities and SMEs that study, promote and coordinate focused research activities in the field of innovative materials and advanced technologies mainly for engines and engine components for the aerospace industry and power generation.
