SIDECO - Software platform for Big Data Management and Analytics to support the strategic decisions

Obiettivo

The SIDECO project aims at designing and implementing a decision support system through the creation of a huge integrated data base and advanced Big Data Management and Analytics techniques to rapidly and effectively find out, extract, convey, share and connect highly frequently updated information.

The SIDECO project scope is collecting and analyzing information related to energy productions and consumptions, their technical administration, both as raw data and processed data (documents, tables, structured data, georeferenced data), coming from public institutions (Municipality, District) and energy providers. Integrated data are accessible by a single platform offering end users the opportunity to query the huge and reliable data base using advanced tools and techniques (Data Mining, Dashboard, Reports, georeferenced data analysis and visualization).

Within the domain of public policies dedicated to energy and mobility, SIDECO project innovative technological requirements are oriented to fulfill the 4V Big Data paradigm: Volume, Variety, Velocity and Veridicity.

Attività nel progetto CIRA

Within the SIDECO project, CIRA carried out the activities of system requirement and system architecture definition applying the Harmony process for integrated system and software design and development, using the visual modelling languages SysML and UML (see figure "SIDECO Use Case Diagram").

Moreover, CIRA had to accomplish the challenging tasks of analysis and design of the main SIDECO subsystems: the Energy Data Management and the Energy Data Analytics. The former dedicated to heterogeneous and distributed electricity and heat consumption data source management and the latter to the application of sophisticated algorithms for energy data analysis, anomalous consumption detection, adaptation to changing energy consumption habits (i.e. energy saving, innovative plant installation). In more detail, CIRA designed:

  • the Spatial Data Warehousing system, for energy consumption data navigation and exploration offering the end users an integrated approach and user-friendly interfaces (see figure "SIDECO Energy Data Management System Architecture").

  • the Anomaly Detection software application, for supporting advanced analysis including Statistics and Temporal Data Mining, over energy consumptions of residential users and a mall (see figure "SIDECO Energy Data Analytics System Architecture").

In the end, CIRA studied state-of-the-art Big Data Management & Analytics technological solutions to implement a proof-of-concept prototype of the SIDECO subsystems, based on open source technologies, testing the feasibility of design products by means of experimentation and analysis of obtained results (see figures "Anomaly Display" and "SOLAP Interface of the SIDECO Spatial Data Warehouse").
