HERWINGT - Hybrid Electric Regional Wing Integration Novel Green Technologies
Obiettivo
HERWINGT is a research project with the utmost target to become one of the “game-changers" that will drive the transformation toward climate-neutral aviation systems. In that frame, HERWINGT aims to design an unprecedented wing, proper for the future Hybrid-Electric Regional Aircraft, and develop architectures, structures, and technologies leading to higher integration of electric systems. A 50% fuel burn reduction, at aircraft level, will be pursued in three different ways:
Pioneering wing configurations and improved aerodynamics causing drag reduction, and, enabling, at wing component level, a 15% fuel burn reduction;
Wing structures, more integrated systems, and new material technologies towards a 20% weight reduction at component level;
Develop the technologies to equip the wing with fuel systems that are compatible with sustainable aviation fuels.
The project is funded by the European Union in the framework of the call “CLEAN-AVIATION-2022-01-HER-04: Innovative Wing Design for Hybrid-Electric Regional Aircraft". 36 partners from 11 countries are involved.
Attività nel progetto CIRA
CIRA is involved in the following tasks:
Aero-structural design of a high-aspect ratio wing in order to maximise the aerodynamic performances in both cruise and landing/takeoff;
Development of a flap by the 'morphing' technology in order to improve aircraft performances in landing/takeoff conditions;
Design, realisation and experimental analysis of a compliant morphing flap for an hybrid electric aircraft.
