Research, Sustainability and Innovation: CIRA’s Participation in CEAS 2025

CIRA brought the best of its research to Turin on the occasion of the CEAS Aerospace Europe Conference 2025, held from 1 to 4 December at the Lingotto Congress Center, presenting high-profile scientific contributions in the fields of sustainable aviation, space exploration and digital test infrastructures.

The presented works covered:

  • Next-generation aerial platforms, developed within Clean Aviation projects such as HERWINGT and NEWBORN, from morphing devices and active flow control for regional aircraft to aerodynamic and aeroacoustic analysis for propellers, quadcopters and hydrogen-based configurations.
  • Advanced materials and technologies for lunar and Martian exploration, developed within SELENE and “Space manufacturing in situ” projects, including self-healing and shape-memory structures, dust-mitigation concepts and deployable thermal protection systems tested in ground facilities.
  • Innovative mobility solutions for off-Earth environments, such as additively manufactured components and optimized wheels for lightweight lunar rover concepts (TEDS).
  • Digitalization of test facilities, through digital twins and advanced numerical methodologies to enhance the efficiency and reliability of space qualification campaigns.
  • National propulsion infrastructure, with H-IMP for the development and testing of LOX/LCH₄ space propulsion systems equipped with advanced diagnostics.

In addition, CIRA’s contribution to the HERWINGT project was selected for a keynote on the results of the Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking initiative, confirming the Centre’s key role in the development of the next generation of low-environmental-impact regional aircraft.
