Successful test campaign on CIRA paraffin based Hybrid rocket engine <img alt="" src="https://www.cira.it/PublishingImages/test%20motore%20ibrido%20a%20base%20di%20paraffina%202.jpeg" style="BORDER:0px solid;" />https://www.cira.it/en/competences/propulsion/conclusi-i-test-sul-motore-ibrido-a-base-di-paraffina-del-cira/Successful test campaign on CIRA paraffin based Hybrid rocket engineSuccessful test campaign on CIRA paraffin based Hybrid rocket engine <p>Within the activities concerning the development of paraffin based Hybrid rocket engines (Hyprob New program), CIRA completed the 1kN thruster test campaign at the Propulsion Laboratory of the University of Naples Federico II. This test article, has been designed, manufactured and integrated by CIRA with the support of a team from the University of Naples coordinated by prof. Savino and Marotta company. It has a nominal thrust of 1 kN at a chamber pressure of 20 bar and has been tested for a maximum duration of 12 seconds, demonstrating in all conditions robust design and stable behavior. The total impulse demonstrated is of about 10e4 Ns.</p><p>Tests of different durations and thrust were performed, moreover, tests were performed to verify the throttling capability (1: 2) of the engine. After the campaign all the parts of the test article are in good status and the tests gave important indications for future developments. The data collected in the test campaign, in line with the previsions, show that the use of paraffin, even without the use of additives, brings advantages in terms of performance compared to other propellants typically used for this type of engine.<br></p><p><br></p>2019-02-20T23:00:00Z
