Marcello Amato is Cira’s new Director Generalhttps://www.cira.it/en/communication/news/marcello-amato-nuovo-direttore-generale/Marcello Amato is Cira’s new Director GeneralMarcello Amato is Cira’s new Director General<p style="text-align:justify;">​​​Cira's Board of Directors reached a unanimous decision at the Board Meeting of 25 March 2020 to appoint Mr Marcello Amato as Director General of the Centre.<br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">​​The appointment was made after the Board's decision to avail themselves of the right (as laid down in the call for tender) to close the recruitment process that had been initiated.<br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">The new Director will remain in office until 31 July and Cira wishes him the greatest success in his new position.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">After graduating in Aeronautical Engineering from Federico II University of  Naples,  Marcello Amato began his career at CIRA in 1988 as a Researcher in Computational fluid dynamics at the Subsonic and Transonic Aerodynamics Unit. Then after two and a half years at the Dutch Research Centre NLR where he worked on the development of a CFD solver with a European project team (an Alenia, Fokker, CIRA & NLR partnership), he returned to Italy and became first Head of the CFD Laboratory and then Head of the Fluid Physics Unit until 2010.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Since 2002, he has handled CIRA's relations and participation on Italian national and European commissions; in 2005 and 2006 in the Business Development Unit, in 2007-2008 in the International Affairs Unit and in 2014 he was put in charge of the Strategic Planning and Business Development Unit.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">He currently holds numerous appointments on the Italian national and European scenario:</p><p></p><p>​- MUR (Italian Ministry of Universities & Research) representative in the ACARE Member State Group and ACARE General Assembly;<br></p><p></p><p></p><p>- CIRA representative in ACARE WG-5;</p><p></p><p></p><p>- ACARE-Italy: Co-Chair of the Council; Chair of the EU Institutions Group - Europe;</p><p></p><p></p><p>- CIRA  representative  on  the  CTNA  (Italian  National  Aerospace  Cluster  Technology) Technical Committee;</p><p></p><p>- EREA-ARG, Chair for the Group in 2006-2010, 2012-2013,2014-2015,2018-2019, 2020- 2021;</p><p></p><p>- CIRA  representative  at  the  EREA  AND  ESRE  General  Assembly  and  on  the  ESRE Technology Advisory Board.</p><p></p><p style="text-align:justify;">​He took part in numerous R&TD projects funded by the EC in the FP no. 5, FP no. 6 and FP no. 7 and in H2020; he was involved in projects funded by bids of the FP for the furtherance of EC policy for European research mainly into the aeronautical sector, but also in the space sector.<br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">March 26, 2020<br></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><br><br></p><p><br></p>2020-03-25T23:00:00Z
