CIRA at the forum on the New Space Economy<img alt="" src="https://www.cira.it/PublishingImages/NSE2024_1.jpg" style="BORDER:0px solid;" />https://www.cira.it/en/communication/news/il-cira-al-forum-sulla-new-space-economy/CIRA at the forum on the New Space EconomyCIRA at the forum on the New Space Economy<p></p><p style="text-align:justify;">CIRA, through its Cross Cutting Research Directorate, participated in the New Space Economy Forum held at the Fiera di Roma from December 16th  to 18th 2024.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The primary objective of this participation was to disseminate information about the European ECHO2 project (European Concept for Higher Airspace Operations), funded by the SESAR program. This project is a key enabler for the Space Economy, as it develops and validates future operational concepts to ensure the safe integration of suborbital, hypersonic, and supersonic flights, as well as High-Altitude Pseudo-Satellites (HAPS), and space launches and re-entries within European airspace. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">CIRA, with Angela Vozella, Scientific Technical Coordinator of the Research Directorate together with ENAC, represented by Giovanni Di Antonio, Director of Technological Innovation, spoke at the panel held in the event arena, providing an overview of the ECHO2 project and its implications at national level.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Within the ECHO2 framework, CIRA is involved in supporting validation of the CONOPS , focusing on HAPS as well as on suborbital flight for which the validation site is  the Grottaglie spaceport.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">During the three days of the event at NSE, at the CIRA booth, representatives from the SME supply chain, academia, and research centers (CNR, etc.) within the aerospace community, visited and were presented with ECHO2 and the related support activities.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The CIRA team engaged with space agencies from the African continent, including Angola and Kenya, with the aim of exploring win-win opportunities in the Space Economy within Africa.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Senior military officials also visited the CIRA booth to discuss ongoing collaborative projects and potential future initiatives.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">​Organizations affiliated with the DIANA Program present at the event, delved into topics developed by research units of the Transversal Research Directorate to identify intersections of strategic scientific and technological objectives to be addressed within collaborations.<br></p><p>​<br></p>2024-12-19T23:00:00Z
