HYPROB-NEW, completion of first major test campaignhttps://www.cira.it/en/communication/news/hyprob-new-conclusa-campagna-di-prove-fsbb/HYPROB-NEW, completion of first major test campaignHYPROB-NEW, completion of first major test campaign
A series of hot-fire tests for the Thrust Chamber Assembly FSBB has recently been completed at the Avio Fast2 plant in Colleferro. It involved an injector plate with 18 injectors, designed and manufactured by CIRA using innovative vacuum brazing techniques, and a dummy Avio combustion chamber with the internal design of the Hyprob Demo chamber.

A total of nine tests were carried out, each lasting about 10 seconds and involving different pressures inside the chamber (from 30 to 50 bars). During these tests, a maximum thrust of 2 tonnes was recorded.

The main aim of the tests was to validate the injection plate and test performance and combustion stability in a chamber mimicking the Hyprob Demo, and this goal was successfully achieved. The post-test visual inspection also proved positive, and the resulting data provided useful information with regard to design and performance.

A major phase in the Hyprob-New (demonstrator line) project was therefore completed, and will now continue into 2018 with the creation and testing of a TCA demonstrator of a LOX/LCH4 rocket engine with 3-tonne thrust, regeneratively cooled using liquid methane.

2017-07-20T22:00:00Z
