CIRA wins the second prize at the EREA Best Paper Award 2021<img alt="" src="https://www.cira.it/PublishingImages/dimino%20riceve%20premio%20EREA%20best%20paper%20award.jpg" style="BORDER:0px solid;" />https://www.cira.it/en/communication/news/al-cira-il-secondo-premio-allerea-best-paper-award-2021/CIRA wins the second prize at the EREA Best Paper Award 2021CIRA wins the second prize at the EREA Best Paper Award 2021<p></p><p style="text-align:justify;">CIRA has received a prestigious award during the traditional EREA Best Paper Award ceremony, organised annually by EREA, the Association of European Research Establishments in Aeronautics, in collaboration with the European institutions.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">After more than a year of virtual events, on the occasion of the EREA Welcome Back Event, held last December 1st at the Steigenberger Wiltcher's Hotel in Brussels, the 2nd prize for the Best Paper Award 2021 was given to Ignazio Dimino, co-author with the colleagues Giovanni Andreutti and Antonio Concilio, Frédéric Moens of ONERA, Federico Fonte of Politecnico di Milano and Rosario Pecora of University of Naples Federico II, of the paper entitled: "Integrated Design of a Morphing Winglet for Active Load Control and Alleviation of Turboprop Regional Aircraft", carried out within the framework of the Clean Sky 2 Airgreen 2 project. <br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">The event saw the EREA Board of Directors in attendance, with a Keynote Speech of Mrs. Rosalinde van der Vlies, Director Clean Planet, DG RTD, followed by a round table with Executive Director of Clean Sky, Mr. Axel Krein, the Interim Executive Director of SESAR, Mr. Richard Frizon and the EREA Chairman and NLR CEO, Mr. Michel Peters, moderated by the incoming EREA Chair, Mr. Pawel Stezycki, CEO of ILOT.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Selected by an international jury from twenty-two papers submitted by the various EREA Research Centres, the research paper describes the design of a morphing winglet capable of adapting its shape to different operating conditions in order to optimise aircraft aerodynamic efficiency and reduce aircraft loads during the flight mission. The paper was published in Applied Sciences in March 2021 (Vol. 11, no. 5: 2439. <a href="https://doi.org/10.3390/app11052439">https://doi.org/10.3390/app11052439</a>) and currently has five citations.<br></p><p><br></p>2021-12-16T23:00:00Z
