ORCHESTRA
Optimised Electric Network Architectures and Systems for More-Electric Aircraft
Main Goals of the Project
ORCHESTRA targets the challenges of airborne Electrical Power Systems (EPS) for current and next generation aircraft with the overall goal of:
- 25% EPS weight reduction;
- 10% EPS efficiency improvement.
ORCHESTRA adopts an innovative approach involving modular scalable “Technical Building Blocks” (TBBs) incorporating emerging technologies and breakthrough design ideas.
Technical aspects will include:
- Electrical architectures;
- Machines power management and control;
- Harness solutions;
- Thermal management;
- Electric energy storage;
- Experimental and virtual testing.Systems integration.
CIRA Activities in the Project
CIRA is involved in 5 different WPs:
- WP2 “Requirements and specifications”,
- WP4 “Electric power distribution technologies”,
- WP5 “Optimised electric machines”,
- WP6 “Onboard power conversion”,
- WP8 “Thermal management demonstration”.
