SAT-AM More Affordable Small Aircraft Manufacturing

Obiettivo

The SAT-AM project (More Affordable Small Aircraft Manufacturing), funded by the European community through competitive process, is part of the "Clean Sky 2" program. SAT-AM is a five-year research project performed in partnership with aeronautics Polish companies.

The main goal of the SAT-AM is to develop manufacturing technologies that ensure aeronautical structures lighter and less expensive preserving or increasing their level of safety and reliability. In this regard, will be investigated innovative technologies in order to optimize aspects such as material waste reduction, weight and cost saving of the final product. Further goal of the project will be to make the technologies selected comply with airworthiness requirement. For this reason, they have been identified the "physical" demonstrators which will be developed, manufactured, assembled in the A/C and finally tested at ground, wind tunnel and flight (modifying the PZL M28) levels. The SAT-AM project will focus on the cockpit demonstrator and the engine nacelle demonstrator.

Attività nel progetto CIRA

The CIRA participates in the project SAT–AM with Reaserch and development activities ranging from the re-design of the windshield, the development of a structural health monitoring system, the use of ALM technologies and the development of de-icing system (super-hydrophobic type). In the following are list the main activities that CIRA will develop in the SAT-AM project:

  • Windshield re-design fully compliant with bird impact requirements;

  • Design and realization of nose landing gear – fuselage attachment using additive layer manufacturing technologies;

  • Development and integration onboard of a structural health monitoring system;

  • Development of an anti-icing system based on super – hydrophobic materials (SHAIS) that will be tested in the Icing Wind Tunnel system (IWT).
