| Workshop on Space Exploration Scenarios |
| On May the 20th and 21th CIRA (Italian Aerospace Research Center) hosted the third “European Workshop on Space Exploration Scenarios”, organized by the European Space Agency (ESA) and by the European Union.
The workshop speakers were, among the others, the ESA General Manager, Jean-Jacques Dordain, and the CIRA Chairman, Enrico Saggese.
The different scenarios of the European space exploration and the verification of their compatibility with those proposed by the international partners have been the workshop objectives. To read the CIRA Chairman’s speech, please click here. |

| Announcement of opportunity - Vega second flight |

| USV: A Piggy-Back Experiment for the Coming DTFT_2 |
| In the frame of the Announcement of Opportunity for USV_1 Future Flights Experiments, the experiment tagged MEMS-ACC proposed by Strago Ricerche, has been finally selected to be embarked on board the DTFT_2 mission scheduled on March/April 2008. Basic idea is the use of a MEMS (Micro Electrical Mechanical System) based sensor device to record acceleration data during USV flight and splash down phases. The aim is to demonstrate the feasibility of using low cost MEMS sensors coupled with adequate memory systems to record acceleration data on the base of trigger controlled processes. If demonstrated, the idea is to develop technologies to incorporate MEMS sensors within composite structures to achieve a way to record data from extra-ordinary phenomena. | Announcement of Opportunities USV_1 Project |
| CIRA launched the Announcement of Opportunity for USV_1 Future Flights Experiments, with the purpose to offer to the Italian and international scientific-technological community, as well as to that of students and young researchers, the possibility to realize their own experiments within the various flight tests of the USV_1 Project. |
| USV First flight results |
| Last October 2nd CIRA organised the Workshop dedicated to the presentation of the scientific results achieved through the USV Flying Laboratory first mission (Dropped Transonic Flight Test, DTFT_1). |
| LIBAPARK Project |
| On September 21st 2007, with the participation of the Secretary of the Lithuanian Economics Ministry Gediminas Rainys, CIRA and North Town Technological Park of Vilnius will sign the contract to start the LIBAPARK project, to support the growth of Lithuanian High-Tech SMEs. The LIBAPARK (Lithuanian Innovation Business Accelerator PARK) project is funded by Alenia Aeronautica in the frame of Alenia’s Offset Obligations to the Republic of Lithuania for the contract for the procurement of three C-27 J Spartan Aircraft with the related integrated logistics support . | EREA Award - Visonary idea for a revolutionary res |
| EREA Board decided to set up an AWARD for EREA researchers dedicated to the Pioneering of Air Transport System of the Future (beyond 2020). In order to participate it is requested to make a proposal for a feasibility study. The price will be an award for the author of the proposal of 5000 € plus the participation in the award ceremony coupled with the EREA end year event and eventually the management of the feasibility study. |
