The Italian Aerospace Research Center (CIRA) was created to implement the PRORA aerospace research program, a sophisticated mix of test infrastructure construction and leading edge research in typical aerospace fields. From its inception CIRA has operated in a context in which competitiveness and time-to-market are inescapable guidelines to provide the aerospace industry with the support required to improve its strategic positioning at an international level. And this is way CIRA tends to dynamically update its research programs, adjusting them to the constantly changing aerospace scenario and technological challenges in the military and civil fields.

The interest shown by the main national institutions and industries has led CIRA to commit, through its Aircraft unit, to develop technologies and demonstrators in the fields of Unmanned Aircraft and Autonomous Vehicles for Access to Space.

The “Regional Transport Aircraft” and “Environmentally Friendly Helicopters” programs are aimed at supporting domestic industry in its participation in JTI Clean Sky programs. Both aim to implement sustainable mobility concepts by developing enabling technologies for specific segments.
