UK to “Catapult” space activities
The United Kingdom will soon have a new “Catapult” center for the development of new space applications, which can then be turned into commercial success. The new center, minister for Science David Willetts said in his announcement, will have test facilities for access to space and the development and demonstration of new technologies.
«The center will also allow access to advanced data gathering and analysis systems, in support of the development of new satellite services,» said Willetts. These could involve distance learning, remote medicine, urban planning, precision agriculture, road traffic management and meteorology.
The space center will be the fourth “Catapult” center launched by the UK government in its 200 million pound initiative to create a network of centers to develop innovation and frontier technologies.
